How Can I Help Palestine?
This is the moment, if ever there was one, to come together. It is time to turn to the Qur’an and the teachings of our Prophet for guidance in order to rekindle our love for Palestine, raise our voices in favour of justice, and fortify our bonds with the ummah.
What part do Muslims play in all of this? How can we support our Palestinian brothers and sisters?
1. Make sincere du’a for Palestine
People who are directly confronting death and tyranny are turning to Allah. They are praying together even amidst the debris. We cannot directly beg the One in charge and lessen the might of du’a, our most powerful weapon. Every chance we have, we should be doing sincere du’as for people who are in pain. Furthermore, we cannot give up on despair. Our Palestinian brothers and sisters show us the enduring power of hope and tawakkul, and they are living examples of perseverance in the face of hardship.
“Strange are the ways of a believer for there is good in every affair of his and this is not the case with anyone else except in the case of a believer.” [Sahih Muslim 2999]
Save and recite the du’a below to help and protect the people of Palestine:
Du’a against injustice and oppression
اللَّهُمَّ مُنْزِلَ الْكِتَابِ، سَرِيعَ الْحِسَابِ، اهْزِمِ الاَحْزَابَ، اللَّهُمَّ مْهُمْ وَ زَلْزِلْهُمْ
Allahumma munzilal kitabi, warii’al-hisaabi, ihzimil-ahzaaba. Allahumma ihzimhum wa zalzilhum
O Allah! Revealer of the book, Swift to account, defeat the groups (of those who reject faith). O Allah! defeat them and shake them
[Muslim; 3:1362]
2. Speak up about the oppression of Palestinians
As we speak, oppressors are using a deliberate campaign of dehumanisation to inflict immense misery onto our brothers and sisters in Palestine. Given the imminence of this calamity, we cannot stay neutral or mute. Since we are the change agents in our society, it is our collective duty to speak out against injustice of this kind. To be a Muslim is to strive towards eradicating evil and promoting goodness in society.
3. Educate yourself and others, and do what you can
Significant global transformations are currently occurring as a result of a wave of fervour and an expanding chorus of voices demanding a free Palestine. Political environments are changing, and the growing public demand is met with a tangible sense of expectation. Nobody likes to be on the other side of the popular consensus.
As a result of a wave of intense emotion and an increasing number of people calling for a free Palestine, significant changes are currently occurring all across the world. There’s a tangible sense of excitement in response to this growing public demand, and political environments are changing. Standing against the consensus is something that nobody likes to do.
Unprecedented crowds of people are gathering at protests throughout the world, startling governments and the general public. Social media users are taking control by sharing and talking about powerful videos and pictures, which forces the algorithm to magnify them before attempting to remove them. Conversations on the streets and online are reshaping the communal consciousness to favour the truth.
We ought to arm ourselves with information by researching current affairs and discovering the truth. Make use of terminology related to apartheid and genocide, resisting the need to believe misinformation spread by the media.
Recognize that as Muslims, we sometimes undermine our agency. We underestimate the power Allah has given us. Allah has exalted His believers and assured us of success, whether it materializes in our lifetime or not.
Allah promises to reward us based on our effort, not the results. “And they will be told, ‘All this is surely a reward for you. Your striving has been appreciated.'” (Qur’an, 76:22). We decide if and how we want to strive. We decide in what capacity we can support this cause: spiritually, financially, physically, verbally, and emotionally. So it is now up to us to decide to use the blessings and skills Allah has given us to strive for our ummah.
Allah will determine the outcome–but we have undeniable strength in our numbers and in our voices.
